We arrived at lunchtime in Mooloolaba, the bus dropped us almost right outside the hostel. It was the only backpackers which was listed on Hostelworld/Hostelbookers, and it was a dump. The bonus was the free breakfast every morning, which was really nice. Our room was a 4 bed dorm and it was fine, with its own shower room. We shared the room with 2 other girls, Maggie from the states and Marie from Sweden. They were really nice which was cool. The only thing about the hostel was the kitchen, if you could call it a kitchen. It didn't have hardly any utensils to cook with and it was crap. There were too many people staying there long term and just took over the place and made it a dump. I'm sure I had bed bugs too, as I was covered in bites and they seemed to disappear when I left the hostel.
Mooloolaba itself was ok, it had a nice beach what we saw of it, and had a few shops and restaurants along the strip. The bad weather caught up with us and it set in for a good few days. We spent our time stuck in the hostel or hiding from the rain in the shops, cafes or catching the bus to the next town Marouchdore to the shopping Mall, we also went to the cinema and watched Django Unchained. Eventually the sun did decide to shine after 2 days of solid rain and we ventured to see what the beach was like. Well there wasn't much of it left after the bad weather, most of the beach had vanished into the sea and tons of foam was everywhere from the sea whipping it up. The surf club had nearly collapsed and it was out of bounds due to the sea stripping the sand and rock away. It hit the news all over Australia, especially the foam, which was blown onto the roads and hiding the cars, it looked like one huge foam party, very strange. We booked the bus to leave for Brisbane asap, I wanted to get out of that hostel. On the Monday we packed our bags and headed to the bus stop, it was a lovely hot sunny day. The bus didn't show??? I went back to the hostel to use their phone to find out why the bus hadnt shown. It was cancelled due to the bad weather and wasn't going to run for the next couple of days. NOOOOOO!!! I was stuck in Mooloolaba in this s***ty hostel. To top it off, I rang the hostel in Brisbane which I booked online the night before to see if I could change my booking to a few days later, they said no and I would be charged the full amount as I did not give them 48 hours notice! Doh well I couldn't as I had no idea the frigging bus wasnt running otherwise I wouldnt have been waiting at the bus stop. They wouldn't budge and we had a bit of a disagreement, along with a lot of emails. Never go to Chill backpackers in Brisbane, their customer service is 0. I couldn't stand being in Mooloolaba any longer and Maggie and Marie were heading to Brisbane the next day, (they had a hire car) we made sure we could squeeze in, thankfully we were off to Brisbane a day later.
