We left Cairns and headed for Mission Beach. The journey took 2 hours and arrived to full on sunshine. The hostel even had a mini bus to collect us which was great as we had no idea where it was. We stayed at Scotty's Beach House hostel. We arrived and waited for our dorm to be made, the lady decided to upgrade us to a private room as it was taking to long and she didnt like us waiting, that suited us. Private room for the dorm price, buzzing. It was a lovely little place, nice pool and friendly. The beach was nice although no one was on it as the stingers were in season so you couldn't venture into the water. We tracked down the local Woolworths, not the same as ours, this was like Asda, and stocked up on grocercies, this was the way to eat and keep the cost down. On the way back I just happended to look up and on the spare bit of land next to the road there were 20 wallabies all looking at us. It was the first time we both had seen such a large group in the wild. Fantastic. It was kinda fun cooking with about 10 other cooks in the kitchen, fighting for hobs and pans but we managed it and sat down to a nice meal. The next day we went to a local ladies house who looks after sick animals. That was fun, she was a little wacky. When we arrived she told us she hadn't been to bed yet and was living on coffee and nicatine and also had a spliff on the go. LOL. We walked into her outdoor living area, surrounded by boxes with little wallabies and kangaroo's, so cute. She was very informative and we got to hold the little babies. Col also held a large python around his neck, he just had to have a go, lol. Col made some money at Scotty's too, he told the lady on reception about being a hairdresser and before you know it, he had a queue of 15 people wanting a haircut. He made a good bit of money which paid for our accommodation and still had money to play with. The rest of our 2 day stay at Mission Beach was spent sunbathing around the pool and fighting off mossies at night. The mossies were the size of small birds, no joke.
Next stop Airlie Beach.
