The rum last night meant we hadn't gone out dancing and so were fresh and ready for our lesson this morning and after eating breakfast we headed into town for 11 o'clock. When we got there however Carla said she was very sorry but the teacher wouldn't be able to get over until this afternoon as his little boy wasn't well, so we re-arranged for 4pm and left a little disheartened, not sure what to do with ourselves for the next 5 hours. We stopped by the little empanada stand once more and got a cheese and a chicken empanada to have for lunch later on before going back to the apartment and after looking on the computer whilst the internet was behaving, we decided to have a go at sorting out the routines we were going to teach when we got back home as we'd been asked to teach a half hour shines class at a salsa party. This took longer than we anticipated as we not only wanted them to be fun and enjoyable but also adaptable to different levels and usable in normal dancing not just a show shine like is often taught. So after 3 hours or so we had our routines set and took turns teaching them to each other to make sure they worked ok before realising it was time to head out for our lesson once more. We arrived to find Carla finishing another lesson and sat to change our shoes while we waited for 4 o'clock as we had arrived a little early. Our teacher arrived and after saying hello and asking us to dance for him we told him what we were looking to learn and our lesson began. Three hours later, exhausted, sweaty and with sore feet we agreed that we'd had a fantastic lesson, learnt loads of new stuff from footwork to connection, body movement to musicality and would like another lesson with him if possible. We arranged for the same again on Monday and left to hobble home, where we collapsed on the sofa for a while before we could drag ourselves to the shower. Somewhat refreshed but no less knackered we opted for dinner and to try another bottle of Dominican Rum, this one the preferred brand of the locals, Brugal, which had a sweet caramel flavour and went down very nicely with the tasty vegetable risotto Andy cooked for dinner. We had a fairly early night, both of us feeling the effects of the heat and all the dancing not to mention the rum (they are the small bottles by the way not the 750ml, we're not drunkards yet!!) and were asleep under the ingenious mosquito net we had rigged up earlier in the day by midnight.
