Goat tacos and bocce!!
Another late start to the day after a much needed lie in lol! When we eventually got up and sorted we took a walk into town to once again try and find a way to escape Alaska!! The tourist information centre is huge and has an array of the usual gift shop type trinkets for sale as well as some really helpful staff...not what we're used to at all!! The guy who dealt with us found a number of options from buses, to trains and even a boat ride where you camp on the deck!! We took our info back to Sheli's and came up with the idea that perhaps driving would work out cheaper...the boat was over $500 each and the other options weren't much better. With that decided we turned our attention to getting ready to go out, a girl we'd talked to on couchsurfing was coming to pick us up and take us to hers for dinner with a load of her friends. Samantha is such a sweetie, she salsa's which is how we got in touch and is an amazing cook!! For dinner we had pulled goat tacos (what we would call tortilla wraps as oppose to crisp shells) with salads she had come up with herself, was sooo delishious!!! Wasnt expecting it to be as tender as it was, think she slow cooked it, oh and her dad shot it btw, so local produce!! For dessert we had a creation from Samantha's imagination...think choc chip cookie base with a kind of cheesecake topping made from greek yoghurt and cream cheese with some liquor, maybe gran marinier, nice and tangy, with a blended raspberry topping and vanilla ice cream!! Andy getting ideas from this...apparently Matthew's birthday cake is gonna be choc chip cookie based double chocolate cheesecake with grated chocolate on top!! Mmmmm roll on Cuba in November lol!! I digress...after clearing away we went outside and played a game called bocche ball...kind of like petanque but on very uneven grass and with wooden, brightly colloured balls!! It was discovered that Andy is a 'secret old guy' as he proved far too adept at bocche ball for his supposed age!! We played until about 9.30 then Samantha drove us back to Sheli's. Was lovely to meet her and we may see her again when we travel further south as she goes to university in Phoenix...maybe combined with a visit to see Cory and Manny?!!!
