On a bit of a come down after the weird/good xmas week, and it was a week to get things organised! First things first we went into Randwick and opened our Australian Bank Account. Very important obviously now that we have a job so need somewhere to stash our cash! Then I opened a library account as iv got into reading since we have been away so thought instead of buying more books, im going to rent them for free instead! They had the Jackie Collins collection that I been working my through so that was all good! Then lastly, we opened a dvd rental account. We thought seeing that we here to start saving money, instead of going out we will get in some cheap films to watch instead.
Tonight we had planned to go posh for a meal, and with Katie, Charmaine, Carl, Me and Lisa we went up the Sydney Sky Tower for the buffet meal! Lush!!
The Sky Tower is a massive landmark in Sydney. It has the best views in town as it is like 1,000ft tall and has a 360 degree view of the city and the surroundings. Its got 2 revolving restaurants which at night is spectacular to see out of. They also got this crazy thing to do if your off your head! Its called the Sky Walk, which involves being harnessed to the edge of a moving, glass-floored platform outside the tower for like 90minutes!! Crazy!!
So anyways, they do buffets so we all poshed up and went for it, it was really nice. They had so much fish to choose from oh it was really tasty. They had salad, veg, steak, pasta, fish, basically everything even including carvery and puddings!
As it was a revolving restaurant, basically the floor was split into 2, the centre had the food at, and then the outside bit was where all the tables were next to the glass windows from top to bottom, so as you were eating your meal, then floor took you around Sydney! Really nice, bit expensive but worth to do it just once!
Tuesday was a day to chill and watch the cricket with John – we saw South Africa beat Australia and make history apparently! Im actually getting into cricket now, I understand the rules and no most of the ozzie players by name!! haha!
Anyways went to work and was shown what to do on our deliveries, and how to dress a pizza, not that we were gunna be doing this but just incase we wanted extra shifts this is what we would probably do. Quite a giggle – the car is cool! And it meant we spent 2 hours perving over Zane again haha!
So, Wednesday is here quicker than anything – this means it new years eve incase ya have lost track of dates!! The plan was sorted, make a picnic of food the night before, so we can get up early and just pack it down the MacQuarie Point so that we could work our way as close to the harbour front as we could. This was going to be the best place as if we could get right to the front then we basically look out over the harbour with the Opera House and Harbour Bridge smack bang infront of us – this is where the fireworks go off from.
Circular Quay was going to be packed out, people wanting to be close to the pubs, the Opera house you could only get so close to, so all we wanted was a nice patch of grass for our group, to sit in the sun all day, eating through our picnics and getting lashed on the goon that we smuggled in! result!
So it all went to plan, we sorted our picnic of peanut butter sanis and pasta salad last night, then we were all ready to leave the flat at just before 8am. Hoped the bus and met with Katie and Charmaine too, so already most of the gang were together, even Ohad had flown over from New Zealand to spend the night with us! How cool is that! All that was left was to sit it out in the que til 1.45pm when we got to our spot, right at the front at the Harbour. Perfect! We couldn’t have got a better place, we were next to the bar (incase we ran out of alcohol), enough space to lay in the blazing heat, and enough space to sit with all of the friends that we had in Sydney! We took over most of the grass!!
Everyone was in such good spirits, music was playing, were played some cards, messed about, took loads of pictures, went for walks along the front to see who was about, and basically sat it out until 9pm when the first firework show was due. Because the atmosphere was soo good, the time flew past, drinks went down nicely and before we knew it we were on the champagne waiting for the big bang!
The first lot of fireworks were really good, we were worried that the main ones weren’t going to be as good. They set them off right on the top of the Harbour Bridge so they were exploding over the water and lighting up the sky line – awesome! It defo got the blood pumping! As you can guess we were all pretty merry by 11pm, and most people burnt as the sun was so god damn hot! But it was all good. I managed to bump into Hester who I worked with in Preston back home – weird hey!
Then it was time, 15mintues before 12 and everyone was up, stood in groups of friends, massive smiles, lots of hugs, with bottles in hands waiting for the count down to appear. 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 HAPPY NEW YEAR BANG BANG BANG!!!!!
Oh it was awesome, the fireworks were spectacular, the lights on the Opera House were wicked, but this is definitely one of the best New Years Eve ever!
The walk back home was just as good, I think in the space of an hour, I spoke to over 1,000 people lol! Normally you are saying happy New Year for about 10 minutes when your at the party back home, then you carry on dancing and things. Here, it was not the case – it went on for the whole journey home lol!! Quality!! Lol! The city was full of people, and of course police! Katie, Charmaine and Ohad left us and headed back to their hostel, so that left Me, Lisa, Tina, Jodie, Brad, James, John, Ben,Terrance, Kirtys, Welshy and I cant remember who else to head back to the flat for some more drinks before bed!! Wicked night!
So that was it, we had finally seen Christmas and New Year in Sydney Australia – wow what a buzz!!
