Driving into Queenstown, me and Amy decided that we were going to have a go on the canyon swing and do a tandem fall. We stopped off at the AJ Hackett bungee centre for people to sign up for their bungees (we didnt quite dare do this one!!) AJ Hackett was the company that first started Bungy jumps, we watched a couple of people do the bungee off of the original AJ Hackett bridge, which was a 40m fall. A few people who had signed up for Nevis (3 times the height of this bridge) were starting to go very quiet now, getting a little nervous I think! We then drove on down into the centre of Queenstown, first impressions were good, it seemed very busy, lots of backpackers and the sun was shining! We arrived at Nomads where we were staying and saw Sadie and Jake (a couple of our friends from our first bus) standing outside. After a excited reunion of hugs we arranged to meet them down at the lake to hear all of their stories from the past week. Seeing as our canyon swing wasn't until 5.30 we had the afternoon to relax and try and not get scared thinking of the swing! We spent the afternoon catching up with everyone and sunbathing and then it was time for me and Amy to head off to complete our canyon swing. We arrived at the canyon and it started to hit us how high we actually were and how far we were going to fall. We decided that we were going to have the "cut away" style drop, which is where we were seated in our harness and it was up to our instructor when he was going to cut the rope allowing us to fall. We were first up and already my palms were sweating. The men that kitted us up could tell that we were nervous so played on this, saying things like "erm I'm not sure if that harness is done up right, but it'll do" and things like that! Then it was time, we were seated in our harnesses and looking at different cameras for photos, the guy did a fake countdown and at that point I suddenly got really nervous and was screaming like a child. He then said to the crowd okay everyone lets do a big countdown, we were expecting a 1,2,3 drop but no...after 1 we were falling from 109m high (the worlds highest cliff jump) at a speed of 150kmph down a 60m free fall and then a 200m swing! Needless to say I was screaming the whole way down whilst Amy was shaking like a leaf. Our stomachs jumped into our mouths as we fell but we both actually really enjoyed the swing part. We got to look at the beautiful canyon and the water below us. The worst part was yet to come and this was being pulled back up to the platform, Amy thought she was having a hear attack as her heart was beating so fast and my palms were now dripping, pretty gross! The rope sounded as if it was going to snap and all we could see was rocks below us, but after a bit more teasing from the instructors we made it back up to the top alive!! Both of us were feeling very energetic and lots of adrenalin going through us for a long time after the swing but it was time to head back to the hostel to get ready for our night out. Walking back we saw some of the people from our bus that had done the Nevis Bungy and they were obviously feeling pretty buzzing too. Me and Amy quickly got ready and then met the others ready to head out! After a great first night out with everyone in Queenstown we were up early for the free breakfast and then I skyped home. The weather wasn't that great today so around midday we went for a walk around the shops and were counting down the minutes until lunchtime so we could try the famous "fergburgers". Fergburger is a shop in Queenstown that sells the biggest and nicest burgers I have ever seen, the queues are always massive and it's constantly busy in there. After a tough decision of what to eat I went for the "Bombay chicken" burger, which was kind of Indian with cucumber raiti and mango chutney it....delicious. Amy went for the c*** Cajun" which was cajun chicken and some kind of yummy sauce. Amy says it was the best burger she has ever eaten by far. Feeling ridiculously full we went back to the hostel and chilled in the common room with everyone playing cards, chatting etc. That evening after our free portion of chilli and rice we went down to the lake for a couple of drinks and then got ready for Lauren and Dean's (2 of our friends) last night out. We went to a cowboy bar where the bar sears were saddles and lots of cowboy features around the place including a rodeo bull and then headed to World Bar where we had been the pervious night. We woke up pretty late the next day and headed straight down to the lake as the sun was shining. Whilst we were sunbathing a local newspaper approached us and asked if a couple of us would feature in a small piece on tourists in Queenstown. I ended up being voted to do it along with one of our Danish friends, it is up there with one of the most embarrassing things I have ever had to do. The interview part was fine but then we had to have our photo taken in just my bikini!! This part was mortifying and luckily we were leaving Queenstown the day before the paper was published so hopefully I will never see that photo. After a long day at the lake tanning and eating another massive burger for lunch, this time we tried a devil burger which is another burger shop. Me and Amy both had the devil staircase which was beef, cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato. Again delicious but not quite as good as the fergburgers! We headed back for our last night out. One of the lads we'd left back in kaiteriteri was heading to Queenstown so we were all excited to reunite with him. Our last night out was very fun, lots of dancing as usual! Queenstown has been an incredible few days with our new friends and meeting up with all of our other friends! We were all heading on the bus together now for the final bit of our kiwi experience of Christchurch and then onto Kaikora. Lots of Queenstown loving Meg and Amy xxxxxx
