After a very long hourney of around 11 hours, stopping at just a couple of places, one of which being the most photographed church in NZ, we arrive in Christchurch. Seeing as we had an early get up of 6.30 we stayed in and watched a film then headed to bed. Bright and early in the moring we were ready to set off for Kaikoura. I looked as if i'd had 0 hours sleep this morning and felt like it too. We arrived in Kaikoura around 11.30ish and after checking in headed to the beach. We spent the afternoon there and then got ready for dinner and the local pub quiz. Embarrassingly we came joint last in the quiz after some easy mistakes being made on answers. After saying bye to our friend Darren who was leaving the next day we headed to bed. On the way to bed we were asked very rudely by a crazy woman to ''be quiet'' something us girls found pretty funny as we weren't being loud and it wasn't late!!!
The next morning we got up and headed to the beach again, the beach despite being made of black pebbles was comfortable! In the afternoon we decided to walk to the seal colony along the coast. After about a 45 minute walk we made it, climbed over some rocks and eventually found a seal chilling on the rock near us! We watched for a while and prepared ourselves for the walk back, but we had been told that its best to Hitchhike back as everyone in NZ is really nice and it wasn't far to drive. We walked quite far along the coast before we tried and as soon as we put our hands out a car stopped, YAY so the four of us girls squashed in and arrived safely at our lodge! After dinner we met the boys and went to see the live band playing at the pub across the road from us. It was a friday night and Kaikoura is a seaside town but it was empty and then we were told to leave the pub at 11 as it was clsoing, not really the party place at all.
Saturday moring was a bit cloudy so we walked up to the market, which was more like a car boot sale but really good and Bron got some bargains! Another afternoon by the sea to make the most of our relaxing time before Australia and it was also our last couple of days together! That night we gave up on the local pub so stayed in and watched a film, turns out there was a party in our bar downstairs as we could hear the music pumping all night! We were getting the bus today back down to Christchurch to fly out back to the north island so said our goodbyes. Most people we met on the Kiwi bus are with us in Sydney for Christmas and New Year so we casually said see you in Australia and got on yet another bus!
Lots of Love Amy and Meg xxxxxxx
