Alli & Pete's Adventures
I know Sunday came and went, without me updating this website, but that\'s the way it goes in India ... I am definitely on India time, where I never know what day or time it is, nor do I care ! It has been another amazing week, where there still continues to be a major breakthrough every day in our charity work. Last Wednesday, one of the doctors from Jhansi came and gave free checkups to about 35 patients in one hour. Yesterday, one of the doctors came up to the poor colony and gave free consultations to about 20 patients. Two were very serious, one 25 year old lad with Tuberculosis, the other a lad of about 7 years with inflammation around the Pancreas. I ended up taking both of them into the Medical College at Jhansi, then later helped get the lad with TB admitted into hospital for 3 days worth of treatment. I brought the lad with the Pancreas problem back to Orchha with me and bought his medicine, it only cost 12 Rupees (about 16 pence) and will help him overcome what would have become a very serious health problem, so I definitely felt like I had provided some valuable help yesterday ! I am also now working closely with a tour guide in Orchha to help get tourists coming to our Cultural Show, which is definitely going really well with the practice sessions and which we hope to have officially opened by the local politician this coming Sunday. These people are amazing, there aren\'t enough hours in the day for all that they have to do, but they get it done with a smile constantly on their faces ... for example, my friend Ganesh works in the morning, then goes to school and is currently studying for his exams, then comes home and does the household chores, then performs in the Cultural Show every evening as the main dancer, then walks me 2km back to my hotel, then returns 2km back to his village to sleep ! I have walked at least 5kms every day, as well as doing 20 laps of the swimming pool about 5 days per week, I am also eating far less than I used to, so it is no wonder that I am losing quite a bit of weight and my trousers will soon be falling down ! Everyone has noticed on my face in particular that I am losing weight. This morning, I headed up the village of Ganj to see Ganesh\'s family, and about 10 girls gave me a total makeover ... painted my finger & toenails, put lipstick on me, gave me clip-on earrings & bracelet & necklace, tied my hair up nicely, then dressed me in a sari ... then the whole family played their musical instruments, whilst I practised my Indian dancing, which definitely still needs a lot of improvement ! They want me to wear this sari and help do some of the introductions at the Cultural Show, I keep telling them I am too shy, but they are determined to put me on show ! I have also made really good friends with a 17 year old girl named Ruby, who is studying hard and hopes to attend university in Australia next year. We get up early and go walking at 6am about 5 days per week, and I go over there to have Chai with Ruby and her mum quite a lot. It is so easy to make friends here, the kids all still rush to fight over who gets to hold my hand, and my friends Ganesh & Santos both call me their Mum which is nice.
