Dad sent Mum, Jeff & I on a trip to Hong Kong & Singapore for 5 nights in each place whilst he stayed at work to pay for our travels ! As a 12 year old, it was a fantastic experience and got me started with the 'travel bug' that continues to this day ! Hong Kong was a beautiful city to explore and looks spectacular in the evening especially. I will never forget when the plane was coming in to land, it felt like the runway wasn't long enough 'cos all I could see was water in front of us ! We did several day tours, including one into Red China where my eyes were opened to the poverty big time, seeing loads of children with purposely deformed limbs designed to help beg for money to survive. This picture has always stuck in my head and makes me appreciate everything that I have. I hope to return to China in 2008, this time to go to the Olympic Games and also to climb the Great Wall. It will be Mum's 60th by then, so hopefully I can treat her to a trip there too !
