So on New Years eve Mali and I decided that we wanted to do something that we've never been allowed/able to do before…set off fireworks all by ourselves!! :D
Now, there is probably a good reason that we have never done it before, but when in Honduras that all becomes irrelevant, as we had found out a few days before when a stray firework came flying towards us set off by a kid that looked about 10!! Anyway, we stopped at the firework shack (located on the side of the road, underneath a plastic sheet) on the way back from lunch, which was an amazing and absolutely massive chicken schnitzel sandwich. We discovered that the guy at the firework shack spoke no English which resulted in possibly the funniest conversation I have ever had in my life!! Mali and I had a very specific idea in mind about what we wanted from our fireworks: "bang con luz", and ended up going back with armfuls of random fireworks that were not what we were looking for. After showing off our fireworks to anyone who would listen we spent the rest of the afternoon chilling in hammocks and then getting ready for our night.
We decided it would be fun to set off the fireworks at 6 o'clock our time, which was midnight back home, and having never set off a firework before it turned out to be a rather fun experience. Our muchly anticipated fireworks display off the dock turned out to be a truly one off display. It started slowly, with lots of running and screaming every time there was a tiny spark, which was then followed by the fireworks actually being lit but being accidently knocked into the sea by the running and screaming, although it was kind of cool when they exploded under the water (disclaimer: no fish were hurt during the process of this fireworks display). We can now claim to be a fairly proficient firework masters (if you want a laugh) and are also available for hire at any firework containing event!! :D
We stayed at Ecomarine, our dive shop, to celebrate midnight all together and then headed off to the other side of the dock for a beach party at Bandu Beach. Not a bad New Years by all accounts.
I hope everybody had a good New Years and have been sticking to your New Years resolutions…I am afraid to say that I have only been following one of mine (try to guess which one):
1. 1) Eat as many baleadas as possible before I leave Honduras and can never find them again.
2. 2) Do 20 sit-ups every day to counteract the huge numbers of baleadas that I plan to be eating!!
Lots of Love

Grandpa Dear Alex, what exiting times you are having. I am quite envious. We have very cold (-7 c) weather with snow and I get roast hen (older than chicken) for lunch. Your Granny said it is healthy – my foot. About fireworks, these are dangerous things. I don’t worry – because you told me not to – but still….. Have a lovely time. I am looking forward to you coming home and tell us about your adventures in person. Lots of love from all of us.
