So Christmas Eve and Christmas Day turned out to be two of the oddest, yet most, amazing days of my life!
We left home (Graciela and Raul's) fairly early on the 24th and arrived in Ceiba at the ferry port around 12 thinking we would have to hang around until the ferry left at 4. Luckily/unluckily, depending on how you look at it, they were just about to send the smaller ferry (which we later found out has been aptly named "The Vomit Comet") across with a whole bunch of cargo and so they said we could jump on that one to avoid the ridiculous wait we had left ourselves. Anna got unbelievably ill, and I had to call the boys to meet me at the pier, where Jameel carried her off the boat for me!! Don't worry, after a quick lay down on the pier, and then a much longer lay down in hammock she was feeling much better.
The day got much better from there, once Anna had returned to a more vertical position we headed out for some food and stumbled across the most amazing fish burgers the world has ever seen. We savoured our fish burgers while watching the sunset, sitting on a dock that sticks out into the bay of Utila (I told you it was good). Then later on we set out for Christmas Eve parties, and at midnight we celebrated Christmas Day by jumping off the end of the dock into the Caribbean sea!!
After a fairly substantial lie in, I woke up to the sunniest, hottest, weirdest Christmas Day ever. I decided to have a baleada for breakfast as they are the most Honduran food it is possible to eat, and why not make Christmas as different as it is ever going to be!! Over breakfast I skyped Mum, Granny and Granpa, the picture wasn't very good and the sound system didn't like Granpa (every time he started talking it just stopped :P), but it was lovely to talk to everybody. After a very relaxing morning swinging on hammocks and sunbathing on the deck Harriot, Ashley, Mary and I decided to go for a kayak across the bay (our dive school rents out double kayaks for free to their divers). There wasn't a cloud in the sky and the water was a super clear blue and perfectly calm so we decided to kayak to the beach on the far side of the bay, where we stopped for a swim before floating back across. In the afternoon everybody was busy preparing for the Ecomarine Christmas dinner (Ecomarine is where we are diving), they were providing the turkey and then if you wanted to come you had to bring a dish or a bottle. Dinner started at 6, so we all dressed up nicely and headed down to the dock. There was sooooo much food, as about 30 people came and almost all of them bought a dish. It was the funniest selection of dishes ever, and it was dark which meant you couldn't really see what you were putting on your plate or in your mouth!! We were all so full that we threw the left overs over the side, into the sea, which attracted all the fish and even a stingray! Everyone knows that on Christmas day it is positively rude to stop eating, so when pudding arrived I happily obliged and had a slice of tres leches cake (the Honduran milky one) and 2 squares of Jameel's banana cinnamon cake, which was truly heavenly! :D
We ended the day playing cards, watching fireworks, and heading to bed super full. :D
Hoppe everybody had an equally awesome Christmas.
Lots of love

Mum Can you post the recipe for Jameel's banana cinnamon cake. It sounds like it should become a Christmas tradition. Make a nice change from mince pies! x
Granny Happy New Year! Love you lots, Granny.
Pippa, Anna's mum Thanks for looking after Anna after the vomit comet ride! Sounds like a fab time you are all having.
