Been very busy the last few days so haven't been able to blog. The Australians took me to an old part of Shanghai yesterday called Yuyaun Gardens which has a lot of markets selling cheap souvenirs and old style Chinese buildings selling tea. It was very wet and cold yesterday although I've heard UK had snow so i guess it was nothing.
China consider certain numbers to be lucky there is a famous bridge here called the zigzag bridge which has 9 corners... very lucky as a multiplication of 3. Here we had famous Chinese dumplings there was a very large queue which proves its very good, they consist of very thin pastry containing spiced pork and then steamed they tasted good but unfortunately i wasn't hungry so didn't enjoy them like I should have.
After we were shopped out we went on a river cruise with a dutch guy who was studying Chinese politics in Shanghai the Australians had met him earlier in the week. The sights are spectacular at night but we found ourselves not paying to much attention to the views and mostly having a natter.
Tuesday was a warmer day, me and Ally the Australian girl went for another morning pancake then after got the metro, these are so easy to get around and went to the future of Shanghai exhibition which consisted if the history of Shanghai and a scale model of the Shanghai buildings...there are so many high rise building and buildings are built so fast in Shanghai that they are getting bigger. We then found the museum of contemporary art which was interesting and confusing as there was no English and most of the pieces looked very odd but it was good to see.
The Chinese try to copy westerners from tv programs regarding fashion. so wear very short shorts and high heels , and a trend going round at the moment are glasses being worn with no glass in just the frame! I think its interesting that most of the makeup in china contains bleach because they are trying to make there faces paler like westerners... yet over the other side of the world the westerners are putting On tan. Everyone is trying to look like everyone else so despite the cultural differences there are some major similarities.
This evening we went to a popular peking duck restaurant...me and Ally bought and wore the lensless glasses to try and blend in, the food was amazing the duck comes to the table whole and they carve it at the table we ordered some other small bits and these were also fantastic. Still loving Shanghai and my hostel luckily as far as i know no sleep walking situations yet but I am on the top bunk.
Inventory + 1 lensless glasses
