Wow...what can i say about my first day here? I love Shanghai!! Seen more culture and amazing food in 1 day compared to 1 week in Shenzhen. Started the day early, one of the Australians i met yesterday took me to the back alleys where only the locals go to have a morning pancake, the woman makes them fresh infront of you, pancake mix spread thin on a hot plate she breaks an egg on top and scrambles it then goes chilli, pickled something, coriander and spring onions the folded over spread with some kind of a brown sauce and a crackling thing put in... I was addicted with the first bite! This cost 3 yuan the equivalent of approx 40p!! In the market most of the animals are still alive they just pick the fish up flapping and he chops them in half still slightly flapping after, same applies for the turtles....not for the the squeamish!
I then went to the Shanghai museum with the Aussie group who are a good laugh saw things that were 8000 years old. Ceramic pillows and amazing Tibetan masks so much to see on 4 floors. Then if thats not enough the architecture of the high rise buildings in Shanghai are obscure and beautiful.
The two most funniest things of the day were a man catching his foot in the train door as it closed then he luckily managed to pull his foot out before the train went but he lost his shoe, so he was left standing on the platform with 1 shoe while his other shoe went to the next station. The other funny thing was in the square garden on a sunday parents come together with information of the children written on paper, pin it up to try and find a wife or husband for there offspring, you have to see this to believe it i have put pictures up on my blog there were hundreds of parents and paper pinned up everywhere trying to auction them off looking for the richest suitor to support them in later life, i wont give too much info on where incase i go back and find my description goes up on the wall.
For dinner i was left to my own devises and found a little Chinese restaurant and had noodles and sweet and sour pork it was perfect,
The hostel is great managed to wash my clothes i am starting to enjoy china!
Inventory 100% belly 100%

niks Best blog update yet! You have to get the pancake recipe! I want to try one please! Sounds so yummy! The museum sounds good as well. Shame you couldn't have gone to shanghai earlier but at least it gave you a good place to start! Many hugs!
Mum Stanley Your education has begun: Culture (the museum and architecture) and domestication (washing your clothes). I am seeing a new Alice. The food looks just up your street - chilli and pickles and pancake for breakfast. Pleased that you have met fellow backpackers at last. Keep the blogs coming, theyre better than any travel book. xx
frank stanley I figured you would get around to the more interesting bits and washing clothes. wow! I am enjoying the blog. xxx
Jade Sounds like your having an amazing time! Glad to hear you've met people. Those pancakes sound good, unlike the monkey brains you said about in your other post. Can't wait to read your next post! Stay safe xxxxx
