Our last few days in Paris were non stop chocker block! There is actually so much to do I have to come back one day to see the rest of this beautiful city. The Eiffel Tower was exactly how I imagined it. Tall as anything and superb views of Paris from the very top level. After eating our cheesy French baguettes out the front of the 300m EIffel tower like a nice cliche, we joined our guided tour that was really interesting. The man who designed the Tower was previously a bridge maker, hence the criss cross structure of the Eiffel Tower. It was cool to think I was standing on top of one of the most famous attractions in the world. We then caught the metro to a famous restaurant called Chartier and lined up for 30 mins. It really was a perfect French dinner. We started with escargot (snails) that were so chewy but just tasted like the garlic sauce they had been drowned in. Then crunchy bread, carrots with vinegar on them and then juicy steak and chips for a main. Of course we polished this off with a bottle of red wine, the French way! It made us really sleepy. After dinner we crossed the road to a crepe store without letting our food digest. I ate a warm Nutella and banana crepe that was so delicious yet we were sooooo full it was hard to stomach.
On Friday we got up early as we had to travel to Versailles. One of our trains wasn't running which put everything out of whack. It took 3 trains, a replacement bus and another train to finally get there. Despite that, Versailles has actually been one of my favourite sights in Paris. The first half of the day we walked around the famous palaces and saw all the detailed murals on the ceilings and the historical furniture of the royals. Man they lived in luxury! All royal children were entitled to there own apartments that had to have 5 rooms, sheesh! My favourite part of Versailles was the gardens. We ate lunch on a strip of grass and I got stung on the bum by a bee. Just what I wanted. After that, we walked around the gardens for ages. They're huge! We walked to Mary Antoinette's garden and cottage that was out of sight to the palace and was so serene. It felt like such a wonderful place to get away from everything. Nearby was a farm that had little cottages surrounding a lake. It was so peaceful and quiet we lied down in the sun. As we walked back we took a different route past colourful gardens and strolled through green hedge mazes. You could walk around Versailles for ever! It was weird because people were driving around on hired Segways that seemed too futuristic for such an old place. By the time we found our way out of Versailles and made it home w couldn't be bothered going out. So we ate in, and Molly and I made 6 bags of popcorn in the singular microwave at the hostel. We only made 5 because it stopped working then, haha woops.
Saturday we went to a guided tour of the Louvre. It's actually so big you can't view everything. Our tour guide was so funny and interesting that made walking around for 2 hours fun. She had a story or comment behind every sculpture or painting she showed us. Mona Lisa is as she said, just like Justin Bieber. Extremely famous but is it that talented? The painting is good but nothing spesh like the other sculptures and huge paintings I could see. I really want to go back and see more of the Louvre one day! Especially the more modern art gallery opposite the louvre with heaps of impressionists like Monet. We then went to the Eiffel Tower at night and got Nutella crepes and watched the light show. It looked like thousands of twinkling stars were on the tower. It was great to watch.
I love Paris but there's so much to do! We didn't have enough time for the catacombs, monets garden, or the moden art gallery. I must come back. I'd love to take mum to Versailles too and walk around the gardens with her.

San I love reading your travel diary Alice. It sounds as though you are really enjoying yourselves. I remember feeling like that too - I wanted to go back to almost every place I visited when travelling around Europé. See you soon!
Michael Nelms Snails - Yuck. Mono Lisa over-rated, that's disappointing. Where you are staying in Brussels looks/ sounds nice. I think you are very skilled in putting your descriptive thoughts into blog format. Love Dad XX
