hey guys,
Just got back from my sailing trip and I have to say I loved it. The boat was called siska and was a maxi racing sailing boat. It took 22 of us out on the trip and seemed so small for all those people.
On day one we met the 3 Aussie crew members- Tris, Jesse and Pete who were slightly crazy but good fun and we sailed for a few hours until we reached a bay where we jumped off the boat and snorkelled. Got to see loads of fish but it didn't quite top Fiji. We then had lunch cooked for us (its absolutely amazing the things jesse was producing for us in such a tiny space, I ate loads).
We then had a few more hours of rougher sailing and I got nominated to do loads of the jobs onboard, tying the ropes and lifting and putting away the sail-its pretty complicated stuff and I wasnt really sure what I was doing.
I tried several times to go beneath deck to get my stuff but it was impossible to stand up straight when the boat is leaning to one side constantly and my balance wouldn't adjust at all.
Me anchored for the night and there was another opportunity for snorkelling. We then ate nachos and BBQ under the stars and everyone chilled out with a beer-lush!
I was so worried about sleeping in my tiny built in bunk bed coz the motion of the boat feels bizzare when you can't see out the window-it turned out ok though and I slept like a baby.
Had a great breakfast in the morning then sailed to Whitehaven beach which was stunning and so beautiful, it would have been nice to spend longer there (did manage a quick swim in the perfect water). After this there was a lunch prepared for us and we headed back to Airlie where we encountered the first bit of rain. The weather had been so great and we'd had nothing but hot sun and good winds, but it did rain for 2 hours today and I felt sick inside the cabin so I stayed on deck and got soacked.
I'm still swaying with the boat as I write this, its a weird feeling, but I've had a brilliant 2 days and met some nice girls who I'm going for a group dinner with later on. Not sure I could spend too much time on boats but feel good for having challenged myself!!!
