Day 27 I arrived in Melbourne last night and was extremely grateful to be picked up by Bill's Brother Jim who with him and his partner Miranda are very kindly hosting me for my first week here, after having a lie in I thought I had better head into the city itself and discover and explore the CBD and to also gain my bearings as to where everything is plus the time it takes to get everywhere. When travelling into the CBD what better way to do it than travel in by tram, after all Melbourne is the Tram Capital of Australia, although Jim and Miranda did warn me that there are sometimes inspectors on board to check you have a valid ticket, but unfortunately I needed to get to Federation Square to get my ticket/myki pass which enables you to travel on any tram/bus/train for that day at around $7 a day. And just my luck after the stop I get on not 1 but 4 inspectors walked on but thankfully they didn't ask me and I presume they had guessed that I was new and heading to get my ticket so luckily I avoided a $150 fine. Once I had visited Federation Square and purchased my Myki card along with some maps of Melbourne I decided to walk along the Yarra river because most of Melboure is built along this river, similar to that of London. Whilst having lunch I met a fellow traveller who was from Denmark and had been travelling from Cairns down the east coast and ending up in Melbourne, it was great to talk to Sissel as she gave me some advice about what to expect when heading east. I then continued my walk along the Yarra river in 30 degree heat and saw the massive MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) which is next to the Rod Laver Arena and the Olympic Park, I then headed home after a satisfactory day of working out where everything was.
