Today, we drove about 3 hrs west of Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Beaumont, Texas. It was interstate most of the journey with a stop for gas part way.
We arrived in Beaumont around 2 o'clock and eventually found the hotel, after the sat-nav got confused and sent us in the wrong direction. Since check in was at 3 o'clock, we had time to check out the route to the famous Spindletop Oil Well for tomorrow.
Upon finding the museum we continued down the road to see what we could find. In this part of the world, the thing you are most likely to find is oil processing plants, and they are huge. We also came across the Federal Correctional Complex which is a huge prison.
After some sightseeing, we headed back to the hotel to check in. The hotel is very nice and is not that old. The receptionist recommended the Cajun seafood restaurant next door so we headed over. It was called Floyd's Seafood & Stakehouse. The portion sizes were huge. I had some Cajun seafood gumbo that comes with rice and then sone alligator and crawfish tails. It was really tasty. After a fill, some much needed washing.
We then went to see a film at a local cinema and now we are back at the hotel, tired after a long day. Tomorrow we will discover what Beaumont has in store. That's all for now, watch this space.
