Today began with a lie in, which was well needed. We missed breakfast at the hotel so we just headed straight out to the Battleship Memorial Park, Mobile.
The memorial park has a variety of aircraft, the USS Alabama warship and the USS Drum submarine. You can go and walk around the ship and there are 3 self guided tours you can take and you pretty much can go anywhere on the shop. Although, when you end up in the missile room on your own it is very creepy. You can also go aboard the submarine and there is a self guided tour on that as well. Be aware it is very very hot in the ship as the temperature outside is around 100 and the ship is one great metal heat conductor.
There is also and aircraft hanger that has a selection of US Navy planed and a Lockheed A12 Blackbird. Also there is a flight simulator that is worth a go. We had lunch in the cafe which was good and had a wonder around the gift shop.
After the park, we decided to head out in to the 'real' Alabama to see the smaller country places. We ended up in a place called Bay Minette, Baldwin County. This was a small town and all the locals waved or tipped their hat to us as they could clearly see that we were not from there (not to forget the Camaro has Texas plates). Driving through these areas you can still see the effects of the hurricane. There are a lot of abandoned buildings and boats placed in strange places.
Since we were getting hungry, we spotted the Dragon Buffet which was a Chinese buffet. There was a great selection of food. We had sushi, chicken, coconut shrimp and I also tried frogs legs for the first time. They were deep fried southern style and they tasted like a light chicken leg. Very good.
I decided to go for a swim at the hotel and saw a racoon creeping around the pool fence. It was very good and relatively cool at that time of night.
Tomorrow we head back to Louisiana to Baton Rouge where we have 2 nights. I will keep you posted, that's all till tomorrow.
