We arrived in Hoi on 4th June at 6am. We were tired from the overnight journey on the sleeper bus so we checked into the hotel where they dropped us off. At $10 US a night it was more than we would normally pay, but was probably the nicest place we stayed so far. It had air-con, bath, swimming pool and free toiletries (took the lot). We slept until the early afternoon then went out to look around the town. It was quite small and quaint. There are a lot of tailors and Alan had to explain constantly that no he didn't want a suit thank you. Later on we headed back and had a swim in the hotel pool, and relaxed. In the evening we went down to the river where the was a bit ore going on. It was all lit up and there was a night market and a monkey. We had some local food then headed back. We had just got in bed when we saw the HUGE SPIDER. No exaggeration, it was massive. Had to get a girl from reception to chase it out for us. After a while she said it had gone out the window. Slept with the lights on that night.
Our 2nd and last day in Hoi An was also very lazy. After a lie-in had another look round town. We realised that the bus to Hanoi took 18hrs, and after two 12hr journeys in the past week we didn't fancy it. Manged to get a flight booked for about 25 quid for the next day. Spent most of the rest of the day by the pool. Later on we went out for a relatively posh meal, which was ok. When we got back to the room the spider was still there. Alan tried to get it but missed so we got some of the staff again. One guy tried to catch it with his hand and a plastic bag. In the end it took Alan and two other guys about 10mins to chase it round the room and kill it with a shoe. Nightmare. I hid in the bathroom. We got an early night as we had to get up at 6am the next day to get our fligt to Hanoi.
