I was going to go to Kep ad Kompot in Cambodia too, but then decided not to tempt fate with my bad run in Cambodia...so made a b-line on the first bus in the morning out to Thailand, in specific Koh Chang. My trip certainly would not be complete without falling for a scam...in this case the Cambodian to Thailand boarder crossing and asked to pay for a stamp 500baht and a 2 dollar tip later I realised I had been scammed. Even though I knew Thai visa's are free it turns out lack of sleep and being swept in the moment is all these crooks need. I did feel better when I realised that others on my bus got scammed too.
Koh Chang was my best Island in Thailand. Chang means Elephant in Thai. The elephants on the island seem to be confined these days though, but they are still on the island. I met an Australian girl, Hannah on the way. We found some cool bungalows to rent, we each took one. At these bungalows we met Suzanna and her Finnish friend, and an American girl Ashley. Most days I also met up with my South African friends (Chelsea and John) whom I'd met in Cambodia and were still on the island, on lonely beach, which made my time there all the more enjoyable.
I was rather sleep deprived for most of my time there, but had loads of fun.
The island is quite large, so even though Hannah and I hired scooters to get around, we did not have enough time to explore all of it. We did however find amazing streams to swim in, a quiet beach where on the beach I had the best massage with the sound of waves crashing in my ears. We found a town with a market and lovely views of the ocean and surrounding mountains. There were wild monkeys that we had to ride through (I was a bit scared of them).
Because I did a land crossing from Cambodia to Thailand I only got a 2 week visa, which left me with a tough decision...do I stay or do I go?!
As I definitely wanted to dive in Thailand I decided it would be most prudent to leave for koh Tao even though my heart was left in Koh Chang.
