Another gruelling 18 hr trip...Koh Tao to Suran Thani..... to Hack Yai to Satay ferry to Langkawi.
I met 4 Brits on the ferry over to Lankawi, we shared a taxi to the one side of Langkawi island. The one couple and I went off to find accomodation and finally found the rather nice Lankawi Cottages. The island seemed beautiful. Some say this is what Thailand was years ago.
The next morning the couple had left and I asked the first guy that made his appearance what there was to do on this island. Turns out that he has been there many times before and this time he had been on the island for 2 months already. He told me about all the best sights to see. I asked him whether he'd ike to show me around as he sounded really knew the island well. He said "wait one second", went into this room, came out and asked "can you ride a motorbike well?" I replied "yes", so he threw me a set of scooter keys and off we went, he on his motorbike with me following on my scooter on a guided tour around the island.
He took me to padi rice fields, waterfalls and springs right up in the mountain and apparently the best view from the highest mountain which is not advertised in guide books. We had lunch at a local village hut, I was the only foreigner there.
The next day we went Jet-skiing and kayaking and enjoyed sundowners at one of his friend's beach bar.
I went island hopping to 3 different islands around 45min from Lankawi, with really cheeky monkeys on them. These were really pretty, but again rather touristy.
A group of us went to more waterfalls for a swim, a private beach and raced the bending roads on our bikes...pretty sure I beat the guys :)
We went up the cable car with definite gorgeous views of the ocean and islands. One could even see the shore of Thailand from there.
I came, saw and now yet again time to move on.
