Was 6hrs road trip of windy roads, we arrived there at 8pm and checked into Pam's guest house. I was very impressed by the mountain range surrounding Vang Vieng. This party town turned out to be great for adventure too. Paulette and I rented bikes and did a 28km mountain biking, I cycled in havainas flip flops (which sadly did not stand the test of time/mountain biking) to the waterfalls and the blue lagoon where we jumped off a ridiculously high branch, tubed through a most amazing cave requiring leopard crawling at points, kayaked 17km down the river engulfed by the majestic and glorious mountainous structures. It was great having Paulette here to share all these cool adventures with.
A year ago (end 2012) Loas stopped tubing as people my have known it before ie one big party. Except it was water + lots of alcohol = crazy people = a few deaths = stopping of the party tubing. They recetly started it again but with only 3 bars on the river that's open. No longer are they allowed to pull people/tubs into the bars with bottles on ropes though.
On the night out with the people of the hostel, we went to a cool local place and before went to the Kangaroo bar. There we got the Kangaroo bar t-shirt and with the t-shirt in hand it was time to leave the luxury hammocked garden where we had great time of rest in our guesthouse to take the mini bus to Phansavanh.
