My favourite place so far!! Took a tuk tuk into town from the dock, as it was far. Booked into Lemon Spice and did as little as possible here, seemed really appropriate for this place. Went for a walk, watched the sun set from the river. I asked a guy to take a picture and we had a chat. We met up for dinner later. We went to this amazing restaurant on the other side of the river, we had to cross by longboat, really lovely setting and amazing food!! Turns out Paul's been travelling for 3 years already.
Once I got back to the hostel after a great dinner, I went out to Utopia with some of the guys there. What a great place, volleyball court, view of the river, manicured lawns, big bar, was cool to chill and meet people.
The next day Paulette had arrived - yay!!! We dump her stuff and went for sundowners along the Mekong. We reandomly bumped into Paul. We chatted about our plans for the trip and he offered for us to join them for dinner, however we had plans to go to Tamarind, an award winning cooking school. The food was out of this world. We chatted a bit with the people back at the hostel, but made it an early night.
We applied for a Vietnamese visa at the Vietnamese consulate, as we had plans to go to Hanoi as Paulette wanted to at least see a part of Vietnam while this side of the world. We got back in time fo the 11:30 trip to the Waterfalls. It took an hour to get there and we were not disappointed. The falls were lovely and we jumped off a branch about 3m high and swam a bit. We walked up to the tea place for a cupa when we realised there is more to the falls. We got to the top and my word there it was the biggest, awesome waterfall. The spray was quite extensive but worth the view. We had our tea to warm us up.
We met up with Paul later when we were back and freshened up. We went for 10 000kip plate of stacked food at the market. We did a bit of shopping at the night market and walked to Utopia. We had a great night out until curfew time (11:30pm) when all the bars have to shut by law. We all got a tuk tuk to a local place, Yanis, for a little while before heading straight to bed.
We were planning a motorbike trip through Laos, however local law doesn't allow hire across county's, so that was not going to happen. We had good bye coffee with Paul at Jenna's cafe, bought our 2pm minibus tickets and were on the bus 2 hours later to Vang Vien.
