Today started with a visit to Recoleta cemeterio, which is filled with many a grand mausoleum that stems from the wealth Argentina boasted with back in the day. It's probably best known for housing Evita Peron's grave. These mausoleum have steps going down about 15 feet allowing for whole families to be buried here. Evita Paron even though having not had the best time in death ie been stolen, hiden in a grave yard in Italy and again then returned to Buenos Airess is I'm sure having a posh rest now. She is laid in her brother in law's family mausoleum under the name Duarte and not Paron. The exterior was also extremely grand and impressive. I found it interesting that one still has to pay taxes based on the ground owned whereon the mausoleum is built. It can also be sold if no longer desired to keep it or if one had had enough of paying taxes.
There's nothing like a bit of shopping/ well window shopping in my case to lift the sombre cemetery mood. So off the San Telmo market to experience the vibe and get a few nick knacks. Rona and I met for lunch at this very quaint restaurant in an Antique market. We even had another convo in Spanglish with a local famous artist over lunch.
Sundowneres and good company on the rooftop of our accommodation followed by the best dinner we have had thus far. We ate at Don Julio a lonely planet recommendation that also took up a week's worth of food budget. Gorgeous steak with fabulous Malbec. As an added bonus we got to experience the start of carnival Latino Americas in the street above us, with loads of drums and kids and adults performing rehearsed dances in costumes, had the most amazing vibe!
