Day 4 of Spanish classes. For the first time I could actually comprehend a thing or two of what the Professora was saying. As soon as she sped up it was a different story though..but a step in the right direction.
Buenos Aires (BA, the fair wind city) is one that is synonymous with Tango! One cannot speak about BA without talking about tango. Tango originated in a small town called La Boca on the streets in early 1900 and slowly after the following of Carlos Gardel's music, tango was practiced more indoors. So Rona and I decided while we are here to embrace the opportunity to go to a 3 course sit down tango show.
Of course the food will need to be discussed first...the Empanada (a pastry filled with meat as in this case or any other filling) was really tasty a a started and then came the "baby beef". This was the biggest state I have ever received upon a plate and subsequently ate... well, all of it. I am after all in the gaucho capital of the world and wasn't going to let it go to waste! Flam a traditional "dulce de leche" dish (similar to caramel) was for desert an gorgeous! The meal of course accompanied by a delightfully smooth Malbec vino from Mendoza.
Then came the show...wow I have not seen people move like that before. It was a combination of skill and passion colliding in a masterpiece oozing with flare. The live band was playing at all times and tango singers came in and out really livening up the atmosphere. There was also a tap dancer that was doing a dance off with a tradition drum and pan fluit band, rather exquisite! As this is Argentina "don't cry for me Argentina" was sung with a backdrop of Evita, followed by a full parade of the blue and white flag into the dining area by the dancers. As the finale, the bad now included 3 accordion players and an explosive final dance routine. Unfortunately we were not allowed to take pictures/video, but the mental pictures will sure stay there for a lifetime!
