Here we are in busy Kuta, Bali. Weve had a pretty interesting time so far, our hotel is pretty nice with air con and beautiful pool...luxury..even hot water! Weve surfed at Kuta reef, catching a brightly coloured boat out to the reef which breaks quite far out. The driver drops us off in the middle of the ocean and dissapears for too long normally!!! The first day we surfed there I (Becky) caught no waves (and wanted to go home..kind of) and aaron battled it out amongst the crowds and got his fair share of 4 foot waves. The next morning thought we'd beat the crowds and caught the first boat out for a 2 foot surf with way less people. We both caught a fair few and our boat turned up as the reef turned to a millpond!! The streets here are full of market stalls offering fake everythings..our first shopping experience resulted in Aaron buying up most of the stall and me being dragged off for a manicure which i didnt want!! then having to pay for it!! In the afternoon we hired two guys and their mobile to take us on a speedy tour of some of the islands sights. we visited jewellers, art galleries, batik and sarong shops etc etc, phew..even too much shopping for me. We were then taken through many rice paddys into the interior for a ride on an elephant. This was pretty scary and I wasnt too keen on his hairy neck scratching my bare feet yak..an amazing experience all the same, but I dont think i'll be doing it again. Then on to the Uluwatu temple with so many cheeky monkeys (no really) trying to steal our things! We watched a Casec dance, those guys must have feet made of leather as they ran over hot ashes!! Then on to Jimbaran for a fish bbq on the beach, pheeeeeww. A great day but very tiring!!!! We are leaving Kuta today, (and our nice hotel!) to head to Medewi, further up the west coast in search of a more relaxed atmosphere and long left hand mellow waves.
