Aaron and Beckys Surfari!
We are back in Kuta now for a pit stop before heading off to the Bukit Peninsula to hunt out some barrels!
We arrived back from Medewi where we spent the last week. It is described as a small fishing village with a mellow wave, 3 hours west of Kuta. Well, the wave deserves more creit, yes, it didnt barrel, but it was a really fun long top to bottom left hand point. And being that there were only about 10 other travellers around and the locals didnt go in the water until after 10 when Trisha had finished on Telly, we often surfed with just a couple others in.
We also had a day trip to Balian, where there was a really nice A-frame, it was great for an hour until Team Japan turned up and it went from 10 to 50 people in an hour, they dont like travelling in small numbers!!
Staying in medewi was great, we stayed in a wooden and straw shack right on the beach, if we opened the door i could see the point from my bed! We surfed loads and so ate loads, and loads! Like royalty we feasted on 3 big meals a day and naughty pancakes with all the trimmings for desert! And of course because we were so tired from all the surfing.....well, we needed TLC, and so invested a few pounds each into a traditional Balinese massage from two old grannies. It was fantastic though, these 2 moved around the tables like Mr. Miagi on speed, clicking and manipulating us like you wouldnt believe, trainned in Java, they defintaley seemed to know what they were doing, although Becky did question it when they were massaging the twins!!!! But we both returned pretty happy all oiled up like mr and mrs universe (or maybe i was more like mr bean covered in lard!!).
Whilst in Medewi we also went to a temple situated right on the beach's edge (Pura Rambut Siwi), the setting was amazing, but the temple wasnt quite as great, so in a state of falling down, we decided we will visit another in days to come!
It was great to be in an area that doesnt survive on tourism, the local kids shouted and waved at us as i guess they dont see all that many westerners. Seeing how they lived their slow pace of life, fishing but catching no fish and washing in rivers which were probably full of typhiod was really cool, and of course we had another spectacular (and dangerous) drive back to kuta, going through all of the rice fields.
Whilst in Medewi I also challenged our hotel owner to a game of ping pong. Well, the locals loved it as the whole town came out to watch the international show down at which i lost like the germans in 66.!
Well, we're off now for another 1 pound feast. All going great here, hope that everyones good at home, i hear its rainning....oh well never mind!!!!
