Aaron and Beckys Surfari!
Since Medewi, weve been exporing lots. First we headed to the Bukit Peninsula, which is the lump of land which sticks out at the bottom of Bali, we stayed at the Dreamlands Beach, the beach, as the name suggests was so beautiful, clear water and rice barn style accomodation right infront of the sea. The waves kept us awake most nights and shook our little shack everytime a wave broke. Around this area there some amazing (ly dangerous) waves; Bingin, Balangan, Padang Padang and Uluwatu. I (Becky) didnt fancy my chances with any of these as the swell was pretty big. We paddled over to Bingin which was a crazy barrel machine of a wave, Aaron was drooling at the mouth and wasnt going to leave until he'd had a few of them, I used the underwater camera and got some good pics, none of aaron tho, he was too fast!!!!! We paddled to Impossibles wave, which was impossible breaking so fast!! on the low tide walk back across the reef I stacked it down a hole and cut my leg to shreds (dont panic parents..im ok really!) my first war wound, i was pretty proud really!!!
We headed to the infamous Uluwatu so we could check it out. It was biiiiiig, 6 to 8 foot, aaron had a go at it, and got a beating losing a boot and bruising his delicate botty. the guy I was watching out there wasnt my hero as a bedragled aaron came back in, battling the rip and cave exit, and looking a bit sorry for himself!! Bless.
Since then we decided to leave the big waves of the Bukit to the pro's and head to Nusa Lembongan, a small island off the coast of Bali. We caught a ferry over and found a nice place to stay for cheeeeaaap! 2.50 each for a nice room. the island is small and we were able to cycle round it in a few hours. there was a good group of Aussies, and even Brits for us to chat too, but a few too many of them to share the waves with. The island had 3 waves called Lacerations, Shipwrecks and Playgrounds, all but one sounding extremely dangerous, we surfed the short shallow 'Playgrounds' wave, Aaron enjoyed it a lot, and was lost at sea most days.
