Today, we had breakfast in the Hotel Perfect, I had corn flakes with hot milk, 2 eggs, a banana and some strange toast.
We then went out at 8:30 on a city walk in Delhi with a street kid David. He used to be on the streets since we was 4, his mum was killed by a snake and his dad left them all at a very young age as he was addicted to drugs. He and his sister lived on the streets in Nepal then moved to the ‘promised city’ of Delhi where it was suppose to be better. He used to sell on the road until a man from The Salaam Baalak Trust rescue charity picked him off the street and into a homeless shelter. He then made his life better from there and now works for the charity helping other kids at 18 years old! He said that kids on the street buy craft glue and put it in a hanky to sniff so that they don’t feel anything all day. There are so many homeless children in Delhi, 18,000 in total! The population of Delhi equals the population of Australia! The street tour was interesting and we went to one of the shelters where he told us about the charity and his life.
After the tour we then visited a few temples and the gate of India, which was all very interesting.
We had a nice lunch and I had Missala dosa, that’s a flat pancake with potato curry in the middle.
After the day, we came back to the hotel and talked, drinked and went for a nice meal where I had lemon rice and nann just to be safe for the over night train.
We arrived at the station at half 10 for the overnight train for 8 hours. It was a cabin of eight bunk beds, 3 stacked on each other and two on the end. I locked up my bag with a bike lock which was handy and it did take me a while to get used to. I also braved it and used the hole in the ground toilet, thankfully the train had stopped!
Next stop, Bikiner!
