We arrived off the over night train early morning! And went straight to our hotel in Bikiner. We took tuk Tuks from the train station and to the Hotel we were staying in - little nerve racking as they chucked our rucksacks above the tuk tuk and they were not even tied down. When we arrived it was totally different from Delhi, slightly quieter but felt safer than Delhi. From the tuk tuk we could see camels and carts on the roads, cows in heaps of rubbish finding all the food they could get and the homeless on the side of the roads with fires. I found it fascinating how they made tents out of sheets and bamboo sticks! I also noticed that the people that took tourists on camel safaris also lived outside.
When we were at the hotel we had an hour to freshen up in two shared rooms between 16 of us! Then we got a taxi to a location just out of town where we mounted our camels.
We had a camel ride for 40 minutes then stopped off for some food, I had lentil curry, nann bread and lots of water. We then played uno and card games until we had to mount our camels for a further 2.5 hours!
On the camel ride we went through farm yards and tiny tiny villages where all the kids where waving and shouting ‘hi’. I also saw a school outside, this was really interesting too see! This was the longest time I had been on a camel and was definitely not the comfiest! My camel man let go of the rope he was holding an hour in, he obviously thought I was a professional haha! By the second from last hour, I felt so comfortable riding a camel, I think we all thought we were professionals haha!
We finally arrived at our campsite at about 5. I felt so sick and went straight to bed! I woke up in time for dinner, sat round the table then immediately felt sick. I was sick all through the night! Not a great night in a desert with no lights. The worst thing is, when I felt sick I had to quickly unzip my tent and go round the back so no one else had the pleasure of seeing a mess in the morning. There was also a guard dog, so whenever I went out of the tent he was barking and barking at me!’
