Hello from rainy Merida. We have spent the last couple of days here and it has rained a lot. It hasn't rained yet today, but we are keeping our waterproofs close just in case. We arrived on Sunday during a thunderstorm and trudged through the rain to find a hotel. It rained twice the following day leaving huge puddles everywhere. Today we have been on a tour of Mayan sites including Uxmal (see photo), Kabah, and three smaller sites. Uxmal was particularly impressive and there were loads of huge lizards stalking the site. Tomorrow is Chichen Itza and then on to Tulum. We have tried some of the local food specialities including chicken and lime soup, a mousaka-like dish and pork with bitter orange. It seems that the security arrangements for flights out of the US are not half as bad as from the UK, and we have given ourselves lots of time to connect through the US so hopefully returning home should run smoothly.
