Flew from La Paz to Medellin Columbia, we had a bit of a long flight which went via Lima and then Bogota and included a 6 hour layover in Bogota, in the early hours of the morning. We ended up finding a nice spot on the ground to try and catch a few hours sleep. It was awkward but we managed until it was time to check in. We treated ourselves that morning to a great coffee and finally finished our trip to Medellin.
We caught a taxi to Black Sheep Hostel which is clearly owned by a kiwi guy, checked into our dorm and then caught up on a few more hours sleep. We have only come back to Medellin to do the Pablo Escobar tour again as we lost all our photos from first time.
We did end up doing some more things around the city which we didn't get around to do last time. We heard the aquarium was really good and had heaps of Amazonian fish, it was really great to see as we had just completed the Amazon and the only fish we saw was the piranha. They had piranhas’ which were about 100x bigger than the ones that we caught and many different fish, some with no scales, no eyes, no tails and they were massive.
We caught a funicular to the top of a suburb which had a great view of the city it was really interesting as they always say the poor live on the hills but they always get the best view and are always the happiest.
That afternoon we got picked up for the Pablo Escobar tour, firstly we visited the building where he was running his business from which got bombed down and is now in complete ruins and now for sale. It’s in a very wealthy area of town and just looks messy covered in graffiti.
On the Sunday the owner of the hostel put on a great kiwi BBQ so I stayed back for that while Junior went with some of the other guys from the hostel to a local football match. I was a bit scared to go to the footy as it was a derby and might have got crazy.
