Hi Everyone!
It's been a while since my last blog and adventure but I'm back to tell you all the tales now :)
Myself and Kirstie have just embarked on an epic 6 week trip around South East Asia! We are currently in Bali. So far it has not been a great experience to say the least.
Firstly our connecting flight from Amsterdam to Jakarta was cancelled as the plane had a technical fault so they swapped it for a smaller one and kicked off 100 passengers. We were in this group - obviously! So there was not another flight until the next morning - obviously! By this time we would of missed our connecting flight in Jakarta so we asked to be put on a flight straight to Bali. They did it for us but we had to stop at Frankfurt and Singapore first - ok. Then they put us up in a hotel and didn't give us our backpacks so we got a 'survival kit' which included the following: tooth brush & paste, hairbrush, deodorant, razor, moisturiser, washing gel, socks and an XXL T-shirt - not too bad but there was no underwear or spare clothes and we had been traveling all day!!
We had to wait for 1hr before we could set off in the mini bus then it was a 30 minute ride to our free hotel- obviously. The room and hotel was actually very nice and we got a free meal and breakfast. We washed our underwear in the bath and went to bed.
The following morning we woke and got on the flight to Frankfurt with KLM (this is who we booked our original flights with by the way) Arriving in Frankfurt we knew we had to get our tickets because KLM couldn't issue them to us as the next flight was with Lufthansa - obviously! We went to check in and this was the beginning of another dreaded 3hrs.... Basically when they typed in our passport numbers we flagged up on the system as requires a visa (to enter Indonesia) This shouldn't of been the case as you only need one when staying over 30 days and we are only in Indonesia for 9. To cut a long story short we were back and forth between the KLM customer service desk and the Lufthansa service desk (which were in different terminals) trying to get this requires a visa off the system so they could print our boarding tickets but none of them could do it - obviously. By this point nearly all the airport staff knew us by last name!! In the end they managed to do it when proving we had a flight booked out of the country before the 30 day stipulation. The only thing left was to go to our gate and when the staff arrived they would give us our seat number. We didn't think much of this at the time and was just happy we got our tickets.
We finally thought we could relax and went for a drink - obviously!
The staff arrives at our gate and we went to get our seat number. We showed them our tickets and she checked the system and said 'I can't give you a seat number until everyone else has got on but yes it's looking good' We said what do you mean looking good? We hadn't even got a seat we were on a waiting list for one! The amount of stress and rage me and Kirstie felt was unbelievable. They told us that they always over book flights because there is always around 50 people that don't turn up, but don't worry it's 99% that you will get a seat because there has been a lot of delayed flights today if not we will put you up in a hotel and you will fly out the next day. This just sent us over the edge, we no longer had any words left and we simply laughed because there was nothing else to do.
We did end up on that flight and it all went smoothly as well as our last flight from Singapore to Bali. Only to hit yet another disaster! Kirstie's backpack didn't come with us. We found out it was in Frankfurt still. She still hasn't got it 2 days later.
To end off a terrible 2 days we got to our hostel and had a few drinks then crashed out!
The End.
