Arrival into Toronto Pearson airport on Canada rouge flight from London Gatwick.
Got train then subway to Avalon suites apartments which we called home for the next 4 days. We lugged our heavy suitcases up 3 narrow staircases to the top and entered a cute little boutique kitchenette room. Kirsty realised there no curtains on the sky light window and so she slep with a scalf over her eyes for half the night!
That night we walked around our neighbourhood which was a very random part of town with a mixture of different buildings and parks with a few shops and bars thrown in. We ate at an American sports bar called Jack Astors which had a amazing food but as we expected massive portions too.
One thing we also noticed is that there are Canadian flags everywhere these guys take country pride to a whole new level.
The next morning we woke up early and headed into downtown got some breakfast at Denny's - as you do. My order was pancakes and bacon and egg which could of lasted me the whole day....
Afterwards we wandered around and stumbled across an arts festival showcasing exhibitions and selling some funky goods as well as giving away freebies. I managed to snag myself some free sunglasses which was lucky as I had forgot mine.
We walked to Toronto coach station where we was catching our tour bus to Niagara Falls on the 2 hour journey to the falls we learnt that the 5 Great Lakes of Canada are so big that they would fill 48 American States in 9ft of water!! Wow. We also stopped off at a vineyard and had a little wine tasting. Canada produces a lot of ice wine because the grapes freeze over the winter months. The wine is like 5 times sweeter than the average wine but it tastes good.
As you drive along the rim of Niagara falls you know your about to see something amazing, it's a shame they have built so many hotels, casinos and amusement parks along side it.
Apparently people who live on this side of the falls take the trip across the border into the states to buy groceries and clothes as it's still cheaper to do this. First glance is amazing, then you walk to the top where all water is flowing in from and see the sheer power and volume of water that flows over Niagara Falls which is 34 million gallons every minute. In a term you might be able to relate to is the full size of Sydney harbour every 3 minutes - crazy stats!
It even creates its own cloud which is where we took the hornblower boat cruise right into the eye of it. You get given these red plastic rain coats that do absolutely nothing as we got pretty wet but you don't even care because it's well worth it. Lots of great photo and videos ops that's for sure.
We had a buffet lunch included at the top of the Sheraton hotel with great views. Certainly check out his spot if your ever here!
All we needed to do now was sit in a bar with some live music and a beer and wait for the sun to go down so we could see the lighting of the falls and firework display.
It was lit up in red, blue, green, yellow and pink. The fireworks went off at 10pm and it was so damn pretty.
We returned home at 12:30am and had mentally ticked off one of the amazing wonders of the world....It lived up to all our expectations.
