Melbourne Part 3
Friday 15th August - Friday 29th August
We finally got a proper matress for the bed which has stopped corinne moaning which is great peace for wolfie for now anyways. On Saturday 16th we headed into the city and took a trip onto the free tram which cirlces the city and has a comentry on it, stops at various places of importance and is used by the freeloaders and students to get a free tram ride.
We had a look around the victoria markets which is a bigger better version of the prahan markets much more on offer and theres even a section that sells all clothes and souvierners. Teh afternoon took us to the Old Melbourne Gaol the place were they hung ned kelly and a few other people, it was really creepy the cells on the ground floor had stories about the most infamous inmates and their deathmasks (a mold of the face taken after the hanging). There was lots about ned kelly he bush ranger who robbed banks and evaded the cops for years, wearing armor to stop there bullets.
The tour also includes a look around the old prison/ploice station used up till a couple of years ago. There was the padded cell, poo on the ceiling and orginal graffiti. We went to china town for tea and had a malaysian curry very nice.
Sunday 17th - We went along to the craft fair market at the arts centre which was ok, some stuff was a bit naff and some very expensive, altough we did get some very nice rocky road cake, hmmmmmmmm. In the afternoon we had a sunday roast with richard and intorduced him to yorkshire puddings.
Wolfie was able to dish out a bit of stick to the girls in work as the brits had done really wel in the olympics over the weekend and had over taken the aussies in the medal table. But apart from that ANOTHER week in work.
So brings around the next weekend and our new friends can't believe how much we are squeezing in having done more than they have around the city, as it is when you visit some were. On Saturday 23rd we visited the melbourne immigration museum, based in the old customs building were people had to registar when they arrived in the country. I was cool to see how people travelled half way around the world and how its changed over the last 200 years from huge old wooden clippers to modern day planes. The stories and experiences were good and how various people have shapped australian history.
It was one of the typical 4 seasons in one day, type of days in melbourne which means that we take out our rain jackets and snglasses, were it rains one minute, sunny the next and like a blowie autum day the next. We had a walk upto the telstra dome, up and around NEWQUAY the dockland area before finishing of the day in the victorian state libary were they have a proper set of ned kelly armor and other cool stuff.
Wolfie done a 5k run on the sunday around the near by lake (same one used for the melbourne grand prix), with corinne cheering on from the side lines. We got a free show bag and t-shirt, was lots off fun and there was even star wards storm troopers. In the afternoon we watched the last of the olympics and a bit of the closing ceramony, withdrawl symptoms.
Was lola-rae's first birthday during the week so corinne made sure she phoned home but other than that was quite.
