Hello again
After another good days driving through more very hot and dry country it was nice to arrive at our next camp at Timber Creek. This small place consisted of only a fuel station / shop and a pub but with a great camping ground behind where you find your own spot and have use of all the facilities on a unpowered site for just $5. We had a great night in calm hot conditions being entertained by the odd kangaroo and native birds from the lush bush surrounds. Next day it was much the same with more good k/m's travelled through interesting country to the next planned camp in Katherine. Most camps were full up but we found a nice quiet spot at Shady Lane tourist park a few k/m's out of town. There was a classic Citroen car rally on and they had booked out spare places in most camping grounds. Some of those very old and weird cars were holding up a lot of traffic was on the highways! We seem to have become what you call (seasoned travellers )now with having done 20,000 k/m's last year and so far 5,000 k/m's this year so knowing what to expect and what to look for when sussing out where to stay becomes automatic. Shady spots, where the sun will set, too dusty, away from creepy or noisy people, distances from busy roads and where will it not be dusty if the wind picks up etc. all happens now without having to think about it. We feel like old pro's ! The drive into Darwin (one of our favourite places) felt great again and with a bit of unusual cloud cover with a gentle breeze keeping the temp down to a nice 29 deg. made the the day just perfect. We were able to book into the closest motor camp to town so unlike last time the trip into town is easy.
The famous Mindel Beach Markets were on that night and it was great wandering around the many clothing novelty and food stalls enjoying the yummy smells while trying to decide what to have for dinner. Too much choice ! but it was nice to sit back and eat while being entertained by one of the many good acts. Steph purchased a colourful multi purpose top and me just another hat. As if I need any more !
We left before it became dark as it was getting very crowded and humid finishing a very long and enjoyable day. Lots of people set themselves up on the beach to watch that awesome sunset where the sun just seems to disappear into that turquoise Indian Ocean. We did that last year.
The picture above is by the wave pool but they turned it off for a 20 min. break just as the picture was being taken !
The waves are really big just like the beach. PS. Steph's dress was blowing in the breeze that's why it looks big however I did say the other day she may need deplumping when we get home!!!!! Bye for now.
