Will-and-Marge's Great Adventure to Alaska
Friday, April 28, 2017 Stayed in Oacoma, SD
This Morning: Temp: 33
Today's stop: Stayed Over
States Today: South Dakota
Accrued miles to Date: 1416
Saying for the day: Friends are God's way of taking really good care of us.
Thank you Lord for cloud cover once again! It didn’t get as cold again as we thought. But it was very windy again.
We’ll be exploring today, starting with the Lewis and Clark Cultural Center. Whoops, Closed til May 1st. But we did see "Dignity", a 50 foot statue of an Indian woman holding a blanket (see pic), made entirely of Stainless Steel. Just erected last year. It’s stunning. She is representative of the Lakota and Dakota peoples.
From there we went to the “Roam Free Park” overlooking the Missouri River; a beautiful, scenic area. The white and pink cherry trees are in total bloom.
Next we stop at the St. Joseph’s Indian School and the Atka Lakota Museum. Yippee, it’s open. Such an amazing display of Indian artifacts and history, as well as superb displays.
We head on over to Big Al’s, a tourist attraction similar to Wall Drugs, but on a much, much smaller scale. We just walked around all the little shops then returned to the campground to ready for tomorrow’s next leg. Wyoming Bound.
Next stop: Sundance, Wyoming, Mountain View RV Park
