Friday, August 25, 2017 Miles to next Stop: 215 miles
Time Leaving: 8:15 a.m. Temp: 80 degrees
Accrued miles to Date: 10,630
Saying for the day: It doesn't matter if the glass is ½ full or ½ empty, be grateful you have a glass and there's something in it.
25th - Pass Hoover Dam (Boulder City) and Lake Mead. Red Rock mtns all around. Road Runners and the ever present Crows and Ravens inhabit these parts. Sorry no pics, we had to take a road around the Dam.
Now headed out of the desert; we're getting some elevation, which equals "COOL." From 93 degrees to 80 degrees so far at 5400', Lots of road work going on in AZ, and they need it. No holdups for us though.
27th - Off to the Grand Canyon today. We left really early to beat the rush (8:20 am). And we did! We got there at 9:20, only 58 miles, but most of it on bad roads. We walked the rim and saw a lot of beauty on that walk, as well as lots of really friendly squirrels and a lot of Mtn. Bluebirds flitting all around. Here we see a cornucopia of the world, ethnically speaking: Germans, East Indians, American Indians, UK, Australian and Asian.
28th - Each day we wave our American flags at the Grand Canyon train as it passes near our site on the way to the Grand Canyon NP. Every morning about 9:30 and every evening at about 5:30. The train cars are usually pretty full and the people on them love to wave back, as does the Conductor and the Engineer who likes to give us some friendly toots. (Don't miss video under Video Tab - Sound On and notice Marge gets personal toots from train)
We never tire of seeing the Grand Canyon with all of its many rock formations and craggy outcroppings, and how far down it goes. Always a delight and a privilege to see this God given natural beauty.
