Temp: 32 degrees and Sunny and Very Windy
Saying for the day: Spend time with people who are good for your mental health!
A beautiful sunny day to see what nature has in store for us! Get ready for the Shuttle to pick us up at 9:40 at the bus stop. Long underwear, check; Heavy sox, check; Layers, check: Heavy wind breaker coat, check; Gloves, check; Hats, check; Boots, check, Snacks, check; Water, check. I think we're ready to go 30 miles farther into Denali, to the end of the line to Toklat. There are two more interior stops beyond this one, but not open until next week.
Stop at Polychrome Mtn., 3695 feet and see a Ptarmigan, partially changed, going from white Winter plumage to earth tones Summer plumage..
Traveling on, we see some Dall sheep on the mountainside and lots of ground squirrels, snowshoe hares and another Grizzly.
Huge gravel beds for the glacier runoff. Glacier means "moving ice."
Today Denali was enrobed in her ermine coverings of snow and clouds. A shy miss it seems and we're told only 33% of all the visitors to the park even get to see this grand dame. She seems to always be covered in her snow mantle.
The vast majesty of all of these mountains is breathtaking and an awesome sight as we drive into Toklat. Very, very cold and windy, it's hard to stay outside.
On the drive back we see a Momma Grizzly and her 2 cubs eating and frolicking on the mountain side; more Dall Sheep and a herd of Caribou. One more stop and we get to see a Raven's nest with her babies.
What a wonderful day in the mountains!
How long staying: 2 more nights
