Today saw a return to the early starts that we thought we had been banished in Asia. We started our two day tour of Kakadu National Park by getting our bus at 6am. There we met our new friends for the next two days, these included 2 Yorkshire lasses (Sally & Amylou) who live not too far from where my Mum grew up.
Our first stop in Kakadu was to the Bowali Visitor Centre, where Graham (a local Aborigini & former park ranger) told us about the park, local tribes & their customs, gave us a performance courtesy of his didgeridoo & his daughter showed us how the tribes made Dilly bags from grass & other natural resources. There was also an exhibition regarding the local habitat & wildlife. We then headed off to Jabiru so that we could set up our camp for that evening & have lunch.
Our cabins that we would be sleeping in later were extremely basic wooden huts with fly netting for walls. After lunch we had a 3 hour hike to a lagoon at Gubara. A lot of the paths were still flooded, so we were up to our knees in water at some parts of the walk. After a rest & a swim at the lagoon
