Our first 3 days in Darwin were fairly uneventful as we were still coming to terms with the sudden rise in alcohol prices (even if I couldn't drink still) Most mornings were spent waiting for the downpour of rain to stop & we then headed out on various walks through Darwin & along its beaches (even if there was a Tsunami warning for Oz after the earthquake in Japan). We walked along the coast & read about Darwin being attacked by the Japanese in World War II, strolled through the Botanical Gardens (which turned out to be a waste of time as most of its areas were closed from the flooding), walked along Mindl beach, which despite it being a beautiful day & a weekend, was completely deserted. Our walk to East Point was easily one of the more picturesque walks & took us 9km along the coastline & through a small area called Fannie Bay (giggle time). Little did we know we were getting in practice for our trip down through the Northern Territory.
The evenings mainly consisted of playing cards at the hostel with various people (as we couldn't afford to drink) & obviously this was where we had to start cooking for ourselves. If you think sausage & beans on toast or fish finger sandwiches, then you're on the right lines. :-D
