23rd September
Glorious sunshine again this morning, luckily because we were off to Cinque Terrewith Klaus for the day. We caught the train in the morning from Rapallo to Corniglia and then walked to Manarola. Cinque Terre is a UNESCO listed collection of 5 villages along the Ligurian coast. These fishing villages are traffic free but not tourist free. It was really very crowded. Back in the middle ages they were pirate villages but now they are thriving fishing and grape growing areas. Manarola follows the cliffs down to the sea and is full of colourful houses and fishing boats. There is a protected little bay where Matt went for a swim with the many fish. We ate lunch at a restaurant of Klaus' choice, of coarse, and I ate black linguine with crab and prawns. Looked awful but tasted nice.Next we caught the train to Vernazza. More bright houses anda pretty natural harbour overlooked by a castle where both the kids swam. Time for a gelato and back on the train home via Sestri Levante. Dinner, pizza in Rapallo.
