Flying into Mexico City it was incredible to see the number of houses and buildings nestled in between two mountain ranges. Small mountains popped in every now and then throughout the city. With over 20 million people occupying this city, it may be the most populated city we have been to thus far.
As we are only staying in Mexico City for a couple days on our way to Puerto Escondido, we booked a hotel connected to the airport. I stupidly suggested that we walk to our hotel instead of take a taxi. Unfortunately, I mapped it to a random location in the middle of the barrio. The highlight of the walk was when a rabid dog jumped from the roof onto the awning and came after us. Aye aye aye I can get us into some predicaments to say the least. It was just after that point we decided to head back to the airport and take a taxi. Which cost us a whopping $2.50.
We parked our bags and headed out to grab an uber ride to Plaza de Constitution downtown which is the biggest plaza in Latin America. All of the shops and areas were mostly closed, but we found a little taco shop Salon Corona to grab some decent food. There was a huge concert in the square. It was pretty cold and every street seemed more of the same. Tons of trash all over the streets. It was humbling to see into a few one room apartments and realize how blessed we are.
