Drive to Broome from Bungle Bungles
A huge day starting with the 100 minute drive out of the Bungle Bungles (this was 60km!) so so good to be back on bitumen again. We headed back into Hall’s Ck for some badly needed coffee and a fuel stop before heading all the way to Broome. Massive driving day with several DVD’s and Harry Potter chapters knocked over, kids were pretty good, Stuey flakes as usual towards the end but he’s not really into listening to Harry Potter after first 5 mins so he did pretty well.
Stopped also at Fitzroy Crossing which by all accounts we’d been told to avoid much more than a fuel stop. Is a pity as the town seemed ok by day. So like South Africa more and more, there was a huge fenced in place just before town, like a game park lodge with what looked like very lavish grounds and gardens for the tourists with cash to splash. The locals don’t want anything to do with the traveling peeps stopping in their towns of Hall’s Ck and Fitzroy Crossing, do as much as they can to avoid eye contact or any interactions. Doesn’t phase my kids who struck up a wild game in the park with some kids who were hanging about- think our guys were the more feral of the group esp Stu who had managed to leave one shoe in the car.
Finally we pulled into Broome just before 6 after leaving at 7am. So glad to have cut another day off our catch up, Matty having some trouble sleeping with all the coke he’s been consuming though!
A site opposite the pool and amenities was received well by the peanut gallery and we had 2/4 cooperating in the setup, the other two we gave up on and decided it best to just leave in the car.
