The big boys got busy this morning on updating their blogs and we also did a bit more of a schoolwork, washing/catchup morning. Stu had woken up a bit crook last night so not a great sleep, mummy requiring a strong coffee to get moving.
We left around 11 and headed out to the the Argyle Homestead museum which is the Durack homestead of the book I’m reading atm. I hadn’t realised it had been relocated/salvaged before the original homestead was flooded with the dam in ‘72. Fascinating history, well I was interested, at least 2 of our kids roaring around outside after about 10 mins.
Headed to Lake Argyle resort of Sunday fame to find it just as chockas and glad we didn’t stay there really. Some lunch and a dvd on the building of the dam which was really interesting, I was surprised it was built with ‘all natural! materials- with a clay core covered with gravel and large rocks, I had just assumed it would be a concrete structure. We set off on our sunset tour of the Lake, after first 15-20 mins of nosing into a few bays and checking out rock the wallabies our guide informed us we’d just seen about 1% of the Lake. Hard to grasp just how much water is flowing through here or stored here. Some suitably up close freshy croc sightings including a fish feeding stop where a croc lazed his way off the bank to have a half hearted snap at the catfish. As water is so cold for them (about 24 deg) they are pretty sluggish. Kids also getting shot at by rifle fish spurting water up at the bread. Such an abundance of fish, incredible.
Time for a sunset dip of which only a few apart from our kids partook, a bit chilly but our guys loved it, jumping off the front, swimming to the back and then racing through the middle of everyone having drinks and nibbles soaking wet to get back to the front.
A beautiful sunset and moon rise out on the water to end our time in the Kimberleys.
