Today went to see my great aunt Betty udy. It was quite amazing to see her and her husband Albert (Bert). Talked about the family history on her side in how she emigrated to New Zealand in 1951, travelling by boat which left London for Wellington. A couple of months later docked in Wellington harbour, and then simply crossed the road to take the train up to Auckland. Back then it probably took about a day by train. Also talked about the Melville's in Brisbane, how they are two Melville families, John Melville, and the other Tom Melville. I think I will be meeting the Tom Melville family side when I go to Brisbane later on but I found it very interesting to learn this side of the family. It was Betty's daughter Barbara that took me to see her. As a gift to Betty, I gave her some flowers as a thank you for letting me visit her at her home. I thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Also through out the day Barbara gave me the guided tour around the Auckland area which was nice off her to do so. She also introduced me to her older sister Irene and her family at her home which is a farm (50 hectares). They even had Highland cows grazing on their land which they bought 13 years ago from Wellington. They have other animals native to New Zealand which were like goats I think. They love their pets, 3 dogs and 1 cat being among them from what I saw. Very friendly to speak to. It rained throughout the day, so I did not do to much outside, so just visited my relatives.
Cheers
