Today moved into my hostel accommodation (city garden lodge, Parnell road, st George bay road) and also phoned my Great (i think?) Aunt Betty, which I was very nervous about to be honest!! It is not very often you go and speak to relatives on the other side of the planet for the first time. The conversation went well and I got invited to have dinner with her daughter Barbara and her two adult children, (2nd cousins). I got picked up from my hostel accommodation by Barbara to her home since I would struggle to find a bus route that actually ran on a Sunday afternoon and evening. As a gift for inviting me to dinner, I gave them a box of chocolates and a really good Mount Difficulty bottle of pinot noir wine (I asked the wine shop owner, lol) which only a select number of stores in New Zealand stock (I did ask Barbara about this and it is very true, for all those people that doubt what I wrote, lol). I met Barbara's adult children and there is a remarkable resemblance between them and from the pictures of when dad was young, (even still now!) you can definitely see it. God knows what they think off me but I think I gave a good impression off myself. The meal I thought was good, Barbara made Lamb, vegetables, and sliced potatoes in a cauliflower sauce top off with some mint sauce for the lamb. Jenny, you would have been proud!! She made a slight over cooking off the dessert which was apple crumble with ice cream. Dad, I think you would have enjoyed the crumble; well I enjoyed it (and I was not just being polite) even though she was getting grief from her children lol. It turned out to be a very good evening catching up for the first time what has been going on with Betty's side of the family. Barbara offered to take me to see Aunt Betty on Saturday this week end since by the start of next week I will have started preparations for traveling the north and south island's.
