Kalbarri
In leui of our cancelled canoe safari (Murchison River flooded) we opted to tackle some of the gorge walks in Kalbarri National Park.
Into Kalbarri National Park again to Nature's Window. This entry into the park is manned, yet the other side of Kalbarri at Island Rock, etc was not. We pre-purchased a national park permit.
Well maintained and spacious parking and picnic facilities at the carpark on the bluff above Nature's Window, doesn't offer much protection from the wind though.
The walk to Nature's Window is easy on a well maintained track. Took a few photos here and then we continued along the Loop Track.
The Loop Track is a 9km hike following the switch back of the gorge system. Classed as a Grade 4 walk. The track is well marked with white posts (just like the ones on the side of the road). The posts at each kilometre mark indicate how far you have walked. In case you loose sight of the posts, always keep the river on your right.
We followed the top of the cliff along the river before descending to the banks of the Murchison River. Saw Port Lincoln parrots, a swan and a tiny little finch of some sort with a bright red beak and chest. The gorge walls were impressive. The ascent back up to Nature's Window while short, is relatively steep.
Wouldn't want to do this walk in the heat of summer! It was getting warm at 10.30 am and we had nearly completed the walk at this point.
Opted not to do the Z-Bend look out and walk when we finished the Loop Track.
