Started our road trip to Melbourne today, with Albury as our target for tonight. Been a few years since we have come this way by car and the Hume highway now bypasses many of the small towns we used to stop at for rest breaks.
The Dog on the Tuckerbox near Gundagai looks pretty abandoned now, superseded by the Coles Express truckstop a bit further down the road. It's still a boring drive, unless you are the kid in the back seat watching movies...don't think husband would be happy if I climbed into the back and watched movies with the kid!
Saw evidence of the bush fires near Yass and Tarcutta. Fires at Tarcutta jumped five lanes of highway in one spot.
Arrived in Albury in 32 degree heat and checked in to our hotel, Best Western Plus Hovell Tree, nice room and very comfortable beds. Had dinner at the hotel's restaurant, good range of options on the menu, reasonably priced (around $30 for a main meal) and generous serving sizes.
