We are Sailing
Given that yesterday was so hectic, we thought we would sleep in a little. Our first task was to go to the bus station to get our tickets to go to Preveza. We caught a taxi (mainly Skoda's) to the bus depot which was about a 20 min drive from the Hotel. This took us through an area of town that we hadn't seem before.
Not quite sure why they have speed limits over hear, because everybody ignores them. The speed limit on the freeway was 80kph and the taxi drivers do around 130-140, and even they get passed.
Anyway I am sitting i n the front seat of the cab ******** myself while Enzo Ferrari gets us to the bus station. But we arrived, which meant I could write you this blogg. Now aren't you all lucky!
Like everything in Greece, the bus station would have been condemned in Australia. But it served its purpose. Brian and Diane managed to explain to the operators where we needed to, and we got our tickets.
The cab driver (who had a great sense of humour) was still waiting for us, and took us back to the hotel. (again at the speed of sound)
Today, we wanted to see the little church on Athens highest hill. (the names escapes me at the moment, but let me assure you, if it is a Greek name, it will contain the whole alphabet).
The hotel staff were very helpful, and suggested a taxi to the point near theChurch, bceause it was very steep. (see I told you it was all up hill) No word of a lie, it was bloody steep, and the taxi driver, again at break neck speed weaved this little car through all these little narrow backstreets to get us to the drop off point just a few flights of stairs below the Church. We all piled out, and we took these rather steep stairs to the church. Diane of course having a phobia of heights was clinging to the inside rail.
The view was amazing, and if I knew how to load the photo's, I would show you. The bell tower however was covered in graffiti, which is a common sight in Greece. .But you do learn to look through this, and appreciate the city for what it is.
So like any thing good, theres a catch, and that was the bloody long walk back. We set of down the hill, and eventually we ended up in an area of Athens which was quite wealthy. Pretty little backstreets, off the tourist route. Great to see. The girls figured it was time to do some shopping, so we stopped and asked a lady where some good shopping was. The lady was really nice, gave us the directions, and off we went. She realised were unsure, so walked behind us most of the way, giving directions. Soon the girls eyes lit up, Shops, quality ones at that.
After going in an out of the shops, the girls ended up buying some really nice shoes, and Cheryl picked up a really nice handbag. The shopping was comp
